Esther Groen
Esther is an independent payments strategy consultant with a rich background spanning banking, payments, and fintech. She spent over a decade in global transaction services at ABN AMRO and RBS/NatWest, progressing from sales to senior management. She went on to become a Partner at Innopay, a leading Dutch strategy consultancy specialising in digital transactions, and Secretary to the Board of Holland Fintech — the digital finance community of the Netherlands. Most recently, she was Head of the Payments Centre of Excellence at Icon Solutions, a UK scale-up delivering paytech solutions to accelerate digital transformation in payment processing.
Esther holds Supervisory Board positions at Currence — overseeing the transition of iDEAL to Wero, the new pan-European payment scheme developed by EPI — and at Verifone Payments.
At the heart of Esther's work is a firm belief that technology should amplify human potential, not overshadow it. In a world increasingly shaped by algorithms and automation, she champions the idea that finance and fintech must remain fundamentally human — accessible, equitable, and designed with people at the centre. She is passionate about the role the financial industry can play in building resilience for individuals, businesses, and societies navigating rapid change. A strong advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), Esther sees diverse perspectives not as a nice-to-have, but as essential to building technology and financial systems that truly work for everyone.
